The structure of an intermediate carbon phase, the so-called "cubic graphite," is determined. Close agreement between the calculated and experimental lattice constants (A = 0.5545 nm), densities (p = 2.80 g/cm 3), and all lines of the Debye powder pattern indicates that cubic graphite has a simple cubic lattice formed by C24 fullerene molecules copolymerized by the square faces.
